Aman Resorts Opens in Turks and Caicos

Aman resorts enters a new destination this December when its opens its 18th property, Amanyara in the Caribbean's Turks & Caicos Islands. Located at Northwest point on the island of Providenciales, Amanyara is nestled on the tip of a 2025 hectare nature and wildlife reserve, with the widely-acclaimed reefs of the Northwest Point Marine Park just offshore. Amanyara or 'peaceful place' derives its name from 'aman,' the Sanskrit word for peace, and 'yara' the word for place in the language of the Arawak Indians, one of the region's original indigenous peoples.

The transfer from Providenciales international airport to Amanyara is a 20 minute drive along a narrow coastal road that rises to a hill and then falls away into a flat plain covered with native bush and stunted trees. The resort's isolated position is pristine and its beauty and tranquillity well removed from much of the island's development.

Forty pavilions are interspersed throughout a landscape embracing ponds and an oceanfront setting of low rocky headlands and a sweeping white sand beach. One enters the resort through a large reception pavilion that opens onto a grand formal reflecting pond landscaped with mature trees. This water feature is framed on one side by the Library and Boutique and opposite, by the Dining Room and terrace which enjoys panoramic views of the beach. The circular Lounge offers a dramatic soaring roof and sea views, fronted by a 50 metre swimming pool and sundeck.
The timber shingled pavilions are identical in layout and design, their three categories based on location and views. Pond, Ocean and Beach pavilions are of a contemporary design with shaded outdoor areas on three terraces whose large glass doors all open to fill the pavilions with cooling sea breezes.

Additionally, two Villas are comprised of three bedroom pavilions overlooking one of the resort's ponds. Each bedroom pavilion is identical to the resort pavilions, with slightly larger bathrooms and dressing rooms. The bedroom pavilions are centred around a 16.75m by 4.85m swimming pool and adjacent, two more pavilions provide lounging and dining. Each villa is staffed with maids and a golf cart is provided for transportation within the resort.

The Turks and Caicos Islands enjoy crystal clear turquoise waters and sugar-fine, white sand beaches, making it a prime destination for beach and water sports enthusiasts. An untouched environmental setting, its pristine waters and prevailing warm climate mark the area as one of the world's best locales for underwater adventures.

Amanresorts was founded by Adrian Zecha who envisioned a collection of intimate retreats in beautiful surrounds with the unassuming, warm hospitality of a gracious private residence. The first resort, Amanpuri (place of peace) in Phuket, Thailand, introduced the concept. Amanresorts has grown to encompass 18 resorts located in Bhutan, Cambodia, France, French Polynesia, Indonesia, India, Morocco, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turks & Caicos Islands and USA
