Providenciales not only boasts some of the world’s most spectacular beaches, but it’s home to one of the top ten golf courses in the Caribbean.
The Provo Golf & Country Club.
This special golf club is set in a luxurious tropical oasis – a magnificent blend of lush green fairways and Providenciales’ rugged limestone outcroppings. You do not have to have a handicap to enjoy Provo Golf Club. Designed by Karl Litten, and opened in 1992, this now mature course is consistently rated as one of the top 10 in the Caribbean. It is impossible not to admire the lush landscaping, emerald greens, fresh smelling trade winds and the abundance of colour at every turn.
The 18-hole, 72 par course offers a test for golfers of all calibres. Depending on the trade winds of the day this target style 6,705 yard championship course can range from well challenging, to most challenging. Featuring rugged limestone outcroppings, lush, indigenous landscaping, artfully designed lakes, beautifully manicured emerald greens, it is a great test for the professional or amateur. More than a $1.5 million investment has gone into making impressive improvements to the course. Close to 900 new palm trees, a combination of Winin, Areca, Sable and Washingtonian varieties, have been planted. There are lots of beautiful flowers including cassia, Hong Kong orchid, pink tabby and frangipani, verdant bushes such as bougainvillea, oleander, copper leaf and Ficus. Provo Golf Club also offers a furbished warm up range, practice chipping and putting areas, and a brand new fleet of electric carts.
There are 12 lakes in total including two new lakes on the seventh and 17th holes. There’s water on seven holes on the front nine and six holes on the back nine which are abundant with resident and migratory birds, such as flamingos, egrets and herons. Upgrades to the clubhouse have tripled the size of the original Pro Shop which caters to golfers and non-golfers alike. This sports an emporium of brand-names including Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, JS Lindbergh and Ashwood. You can find all your golfing gear, caps, visors, sunglasses and gift items all at great prices. Guests from around the world will also enjoy the wall of international golf flags adorning the interior and ceiling of the bar area. The chances of seeing a flag from the oldest course in Scotland or one autographed by Arnold Palmer are sure to create a buzz. Another way to heighten this feeling is to quench your thirst with a locally brewed Turks Head beer or Bambarra reserve rum.
Put your swing to the test with the club’s state-of-the-art V1 video coaching system or take advantage of the three resident Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) trained professionals for private lessons or group clinics. If you didn’t come with your clubs it’s not a problem – Provo Golf Club will provide you with TailorMade or Nike golf club rentals.
Provo Golf Club also boasts a beautiful West Indian inspired clubhouse. After 18 holes golfers can relax and enjoy casual dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner in Fairways Bar and Grill, or spend a few hours on the expansive terraces overlooking the magnificent green oasis.
