Island Music
Ripsaw is the local music genre in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Dating back to the days of slavery, it has become a staple on the music scene in the islands. Ripsaw is created by scrapping a metal rod, such as a screwdriver, over a saw blade which creates a scrapping sound. To spice-up the scrapping sound local musicians add drums, a triangle, piano and a guitar to develop the perfect melody.
